Fertility

Dr Philip Zinn is trained in reproductive endocrinology and offers the full range of fertility services as an Associate of Cape Fertility Clinic.

Subfertility can be a very frustrating journey when you long to start your own family, but let’s define it first; subfertility is the inability to conceive within 12 months of regular sex without birth control.  If you have an increased risk for fertility problems then you should not wait longer than 6 months. Examples are being over 35, having irregular cycles, very painful periods or a history of pelvic infection. If your partner has health or lifestyle problems then his sperm could also be affected.

Subfertility warning signs:

  • Infrequent menstrual periods.
  • A history of pelvic infection and STIs.
  • Known uterine fibroids or endometrial polyps.
  • Known male factor abnormalities.

Some treatment options:

  • Corrective surgery.
  • Medications to induce egg development and ovulation.
  • Insemination.
  • In-vitro fertilisation (IVF / ICSI).
  • Surrogacy.

It is essential to take note that both sexes can have subfertility issues. Men can suffer from low sperm count among other problems. If you worry that you are unable to conceive, you can visit Dr Zinn for an evaluation and explore your options.

An initial fertility evaluation includes:

  • Medical history and physical examination.
  • Transvaginal ultrasound.
  • Semen analysis.
  • Hysterosalpingogram (HSG).
  • Laboratory blood tests.
